The 8th BRICS Ministers of Industry Meeting was held in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
On August 16, the 8th BRICS Ministers of Industry Meeting was held in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. The theme of this meeting was 'Strengthening Multilateralism, Promoting Global Fair Development and Security.' Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, led the delegation to attend the meeting and delivered a speech.
Xin Guobin stated that as an important emerging market globally, the expanded BRICS countries will play an even more significant role in maintaining global economic order and ensuring the security and stability of industrial and supply chains. The new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation brings new opportunities for industrial upgrading in all countries. China is willing to work with BRICS partners to deepen pragmatic cooperation, seize opportunities, and face challenges together, injecting new momentum into the stable recovery of the world economy. First, to maintain the stability and smooth operation of industrial and supply chains, deepen collaborative innovation cooperation in line with market principles, and create an open, fair, just, and non-discriminatory development environment, collectively building a secure, stable, efficient, open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial global industrial and supply chain system. Second, to promote artificial intelligence (AI) in aiding sustainable industrial development, strengthen AI development and governance cooperation, encourage the innovative application of next-generation AI technologies in typical industrial scenarios, and increase efforts to build and promote smart factories and intelligent supply chains, jointly advancing the intelligent upgrade of industries. China has established the 'China-BRICS AI Development and Cooperation Center' and welcomes active participation from all BRICS countries. Third, to advance green and low-carbon development in the industrial sector, adhering to the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind and the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusivity, cooperation, and mutual benefit, continuously deepening exchanges and cooperation in green technology, products, equipment, services, and product carbon footprint management, working together to advance the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The meeting was chaired by Alichanov, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, the BRICS chair for 2024. Attendees included industry leaders from China, Brazil, India, South Africa, Egypt, the UAE, Iran, Ethiopia, and senior representatives from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Eurasian Economic Union. The meeting reviewed and adopted the 'Joint Declaration of the 8th BRICS Ministers of Industry Meeting,' and reached broad consensus on promoting the construction of the New Industrial Revolution Partnership, deepening industrial policy exchanges in key areas such as new industrialization, SMEs, and industrial and supply chains. Seven new working groups were established, covering sub-sectors such as the chemical industry, metallurgical mining, industrial digital transformation, intelligent manufacturing and robotics, the photovoltaic industry, SMEs, and the pharmaceutical industry. The meeting also achieved consensus on strengthening coordination between BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Innovation Bases and Industrial Capacity Centers.
During the meeting, Xin Guobin held separate talks with the heads of delegations from Russia, Brazil, the UAE, Ethiopia, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the Eurasian Economic Union, exchanging views on enhancing industrial cooperation and coordination within a multilateral framework.
Relevant department heads from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the International Economic and Technical Cooperation Center, the BRICS New Industrial Revolution Partnership Innovation Base, and officials from the Chinese Embassy in Russia attended the events.
