Russian President Vladimir Putin said on January 1 that during Russia's presidency of BRICS in 2024, Russia will continue its commitment to advancing BRICS collaboration across politics and security, economy and finance, and cultural and humanitarian domains.

According to the Russian presidential website, Putin stated that enhancing foreign policy coordination among member nations, jointly addressing challenges and threats to international and regional security and stability, ensuring energy and food security, elevating the BRICS countries' role in the international monetary and financial system, fostering inter-banking and financial cooperation, and expanding the use of domestic currency will receive particular emphasis. Furthermore, it is imperative to promote exchanges in various sectors, including science and technology, healthcare, ecology, culture, athletics, youth, and the collaboration of civil society organizations.

Putin also said all possible measures will be taken to promote the harmonious integration of new members into the BRICS cooperation mechanism.

Russia officially commenced its chairmanship of BRICS for 2024 on January 1.
