UNIDO highlights strategic partnership and innovation at 2024 BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution
Xiamen, China, September 10, 2024 - The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) participated in the 20024 BRICS Forum of the 2024 New Industrial Revolution Partner (Partnir) held by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of Xiamen, China. The theme of the forum is “Building high-quality partnerships and embarking on a new and new industrialization journey”.
Unido's keynote speech
Mr. Ciyong Zou, Director General and Managing Director of Unido, delivered a keynote speech at the main forum. In his speech, Mr. Zou emphasized Unido's commitment to promoting industrial transformation and sustainable development within the BRICS countries. Mr. Zu emphasized the important role of the BRICS countries as industrial powers, recalling the vision of the Director-General: "The BRICS countries represent strong countries with industrial potential. Unido is committed to strengthening cooperation between them and unlocking this potential, thus gaining The interests of all people.”
Mr. Zou detailed UNIDO's strategic initiatives, including the Industrial Capacity Center, the Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Center (SMIC) and the AIM Global Center of Excellence. These initiatives support the BRICS countries’ industrialization journey, focusing on sustainable practices, digital transformation and enhancing industrial capacity in various sectors.
New member ceremony joins UNIDO Global Industry and Manufacturing AI Alliance (AIM Global)
One of the highlights of Unido's participation was the ceremony as a new member's commitment to join the UNIDO Global Artificial Intelligence Alliance Industry and Manufacturing (AIM Global). The alliance’s flagship program aims to leverage AI-powered solutions to improve industrial efficiency, sustainability and innovation. The ceremony highlighted the growing momentum and commitment to integrate AI into industrial processes, fully aligned with the forum’s goal of promoting high-quality partnerships.
High-level participants worth noting
The forum features senior participants and reflects the global significance of the event. Ms. Dilma Rousseff, president of his new development bank, delivered the opening speech. Ministerial representatives from China, Cuba, Ethiopia, Guyana, Iran, Morocco, Venezuela and Zimbabwe made speeches at the forum.
Background of UNIDO and BRICS cooperation
Unido has been at the forefront of industrial development plans within the BRICS framework, keeping its projects consistent in supporting the new industrial revolution. The Center for Industrial Capacity Recognized at the BRICS Ministerial Meeting held in Russia will promote industrial cooperation among BRICS countries. The Smart Manufacturing Innovation Center (SMIC) and the AIM Global AI Center of Excellence are other key components of UNIDO’s strategy, aiming to enhance the industry’s capabilities through digital transformation and smart manufacturing technologies. By building dynamic networks, Unido aims to build capabilities, promote best practices and promote innovation in key industrial sectors.
